Planning to Install HPL Cladding? Read This First!

Be it a commercial establishment or a residential building, HPL cladding is an ideal solution for those looking to beautify the exteriors of their buildings and protect them against external threats such as fire, fading, moisture, microbial threats and extreme weather conditions. The HPL cladding solutions provide superior durability and are a great alternative for granite, hardwood, and composite. That doesn’t mean HPL cladding solutions are not at all impacted by external weather conditions and other factors. It is, therefore, advisable that you take certain precautions to ensure minimal impact to your HPL claddings and so that they stay as good as new.  Continue reading to find out what one should do to ensure the same.

1. Acclimate the cladding solution

HPL cladding doesn’t expand or contract with changes in external temperature. However, there’s a slight chance that the external temperature may impact the settling capacity of the HPL cladding. It is, therefore, advisable to acclimate the cladding material by leaving it in the area of installation for around 48 hours.

2. Ensure waterproofing

Lack of proper waterproofing can cause damage to your wall cladding. The accumulation of excess water or continuous exposure to moisture can cause gradual damage to even the best wall cladding. You should, therefore, ensure high-quality waterproofing to avoid any damage to your HPL wall cladding.

3. Opt for a fire retardant cladding material

Choose a  cladding solution material that is resistant to fire and has qualified the fire resistance test ‘Methods of test for Fire Propagation for Products’ that’s carried out as per the British standards. Go with a reputable brand that offers HPL cladding solutions with fire retardant properties.

Protection against other factors

Go with a cladding solution that offers resistance to microbial growth, fading, and impact. Also, make sure you do not use any harsh chemicals to clean HPL claddings.  Instead, use a mild soap solution and a clean cloth to clean HPL claddings.

Conclusion

Cladding solutions are available in a wide range of design options. You can choose an HPL cladding material depending on whether you want to install it on the interior or the exterior walls. Once you have the cladding installed, follow a regular maintenance schedule to ensure your wall cladding stays as good as new throughout its lifecycle.
